What makes a life meaningful?
Not one universal formula, but the ways love, responsibility, curiosity and attention can make a life matter.
You do not have to turn your life into a success story to make it worth living.
Begin here ↓I have spent years trying to understand people, including myself. I studied organisations, worked across institutions, returned to a family shop, wrote essays, built strange little creative projects, and kept asking what any of it was for.
I have no final answer. But I have become increasingly interested in a quieter possibility: meaning is not only something we find at the summit. Sometimes it is something we practise on an ordinary Tuesday.
Not one universal formula, but the ways love, responsibility, curiosity and attention can make a life matter.
An existential crisis can be unsettling. It can also become a serious invitation to reconsider inherited definitions of success.
Perhaps purpose is not a title waiting to be discovered. Perhaps it is a direction you repeatedly choose.
Rebuilding does not erase difficult chapters. It makes room for a fuller story than either triumph or defeat.
Learning means revising beliefs when life offers better evidence. Consistency is not the same thing as wisdom.
Work can matter. So can music, laughter, a good conversation, a familiar street and an evening that asks nothing of you.
“I am not a finished product. I am a human being having a life.”A working philosophy, not a final verdict
I'm Sahil Tayal, based in New Delhi. My path includes commerce, an MBA at JBIMS, professional work, a family retail business, research into human behaviour, writing, technology and the unlikely poetry of making perfume.
There have been hard seasons, fresh starts and ordinary days. I am not presenting myself as someone who has mastered suffering or discovered the secret of happiness. I am documenting what it looks like to keep learning how to live.
